Over the past two decades, we’ve witnessed a renaissance of sorts in the 19th century Arts and Crafts Movement. Local artisans have rekindled the notion that dedicated workers can create beautiful products that enhance our lives rather than merely meet our basic needs.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the resurgence of craft breweries and artisan distilleries. But for the artisans to achieve the quality they desire, they require base resources of equally high quality. For the distiller, this means a source of good water, quality grain, and vibrant yeast, the necessary ingredients of whisky.

But for the magic to happen, they need one more thing. And that is an oak barrel of the highest quality and most exceptional craftsmanship.

Not surprisingly, three Vermont veterans are rising to the challenge and in 2016 founded Green Mountain Grain & Barrel.

Located in Richmond, Vermont, the cooperage produces barrels for many of Vermont’s craft distilleries, breweries, and wineries.

So, join me on Monday, August 12th when we take a personalized tour of this unique cooperage.


1:00 pm – Depart the Park & Ride in Wilder, Vermont
2:30 – 4:00 pm – Guided tour of the cooperage led by Tony Fletcher, (co-founder of GMG&B)
4:30 – 6:00 pm – Dinner at Prohibition Pig*, Waterbury, VT (http://prohibitionpig.com/)
7:00 pm – Arrive back at the Park & Ride in Wilder, Vermont

I know it’s a Monday, but it will be an enjoyable trip and a chance to see first hand the barrels being made for many of the area’s craft breweries, distilleries, and wineries.
