Whisky is a man’s drink, and the whisky world is a man’s world.

Wait, what?

Nothing could be further from the truth!

In fact, if it weren’t for some strong women, it is unlikely we’d be drinking such fine whiskeys as Bushmills, Johnnie Walker, or Laphroaig today. And women continue to play an important role, holding positions as master distillers throughout the industry, including Erin Bell, here at Silo Distillery.

Women also account for the fastest-growing segment of whisky consumers. In the 1990s, women only accounted for 15% of the market; today, that figure exceeds 37%. And those figures have not escaped the folks on Fifth Avenue. More and more marketing is being aimed at women, and this is having a profound effect on the evolution of the industry.

Tonight we’ll explore the role of women in whisky, past, and present. We have some fascinating stories to share.
